Merseyside Archaeological Society welcomes student members. We offer a reduced rate of £15 per year which provides access to all MAS events (see Membership). We also have research grants available which students can apply for (see MAS Grants). Students can also present talks to the society (see below).
Invitation to research students to present their work in person to Merseyside Archaeological Society
Are you a research student either based in Merseyside or studying here? Merseyside Archaeological Society would like to hear from you!
When & Where?: Thurs 20th February 2025 at the Quaker Meeting House, Liverpool, L1 3BT Every year, our indoor meeting on the third Thursday of February is devoted to presentations by Merseyside research students (who either study a Masters or PhD in a Merseyside institution or who are based in Merseyside but studying elsewhere).
Who and What?: Do you have a topic you would like to present? We can host three talks of 20 minutes each (15 mins + 5 mins discussion) or two talks of 30 mins (20 mins + 10 mins discussion), followed by a general discussion.
Why?: The Society enjoys a wide range of topics concerning archaeology and heritage (see the 2024-5 winter programme here). We benefit from hearing about a range of exciting new research by local students, and students have the opportunity to practice public speaking to an interested but not specialist audience.
Options: If you are a new PhD student, you are welcome to talk about a completed piece of Masters research if you prefer. If you are in the final stages of a PhD and would like to have a whole evening session to present a longer talk about your research, then please contact Sue to offer a topic. Our full-length talks are held in person in September, October and March, and on Zoom in November and January (we do not hold hybrid events). In summer, we have monthly outdoor field visits.
Deadline: If you think you might like to offer a talk to the February 2025 Student Talks meeting, please send expressions of interest with a very brief (one or two sentence) outline of the topic by 13th December 2024 to [email protected]
There will be a final deadline for definite offers on 10th January.
Enquiries regarding opportunities to present a full evening talk in 2025-6 are welcome at any time. Again, contact [email protected] .
